NIBCO wins United Way of Greater Augusta Corporate Cup

Chris Graham

united wayIt was neck-and-neck all the way to the end, but employees from NIBCO, a Stuarts Draft facility that makes copper fittings, narrowly edged out employees from Hershey’s to win the United Way of Greater Augusta Corporate Cup on Sunday.

This year’s event focused on how teamwork and healthy competition build camaraderie among organizational employees, not to mention having a bit of fun.

Roughly 200 people made their way to Ridgeview Park in Waynesboro where employees from various local companies represented their employers and competed in events such as Basketball Shoot, Corn hole, Golf, Football Toss, Trivia, Water Balloon Toss, Tug of War, and even an Amazing Race. Staff and volunteers from United Way of Greater Augusta officiated each event and kept a close eye on the scores throughout the day in order to accurately award the winning company.

NIBCO and Hershey’s battled for the lead all day with NIBCO taking first place in Water Balloon Toss and Men’s Tug of War, and Hershey’s winning Scavenger Hunt, Tennis, and Women’s Tug of War. Hollister and Rexnord both had employees take home trophies for winning individual events. The day ended with an award ceremony that crowned NIBCO the 2015 Cup, and awarded trophies to individual and company winners.

Families of employees had plenty of fun throughout the day as well with two bouncy houses, RC Cars, and other activities geared toward children. Food trucks Valley Pike BBQ, My Takito, and Mr. Ice Cream Man gave the public plenty of good food. Local DJ Kris Losh provided music and announcements.

Local companies and organizations that sponsored events and/or teams were: Best Buy, Hershey Chocolate, Hollister, Target, Lumos Networks, Rexnord, MedExpress, McKee Foods, Nibco, The Staunton YMCA, and The News Leader.
