take action against distractionIn just two weeks, more than 1,000 Virginians have taken action against distracted driving by participating in the #YourSayVA Digital Town Hall.

Available via the Commonwealth’s new highway safety portal, TZDVA.org, the #YourSayVA Digital Town Hall is an online survey that empowers Virginians to share their thoughts on distracted driving and other unsafe driving behaviors directly with Governor Northam’s newly established Executive Leadership Team on Highway Safety. Comprised of representatives from the Virginia Departments of Motor Vehicles, Transportation, Health, Education and State Police, and led by the Deputy Secretaries of Transportation and Public Safety and Homeland Security, the team is charged with reducing the rising number of fatalities on Virginia’s roadways.

“The initial response to the Digital Town Hall has been encouraging,” said Secretary of Transportation Shannon Valentine. “Every person who participated is contributing to safer roadways throughout the Commonwealth. Together, we can address distracted driving and save lives.”

“Every day, law enforcement officers across Virginia respond to serious crashes caused by distracted drivers. Far too often, they are faced with the tremendous task of notifying a family member that their loved one is never coming home again,” said Secretary of Public Safety and Homeland Security Brian Moran. “Distracted driving is a serious danger on our roadways, and it is obvious that this is a topic about which many of you are passionate. Members of the Governor’s Executive Leadership Team on Highway Safety are reading every one of your responses. We want to hear from you so please share your thoughts in this important survey.”

To participate, visit TZDVA.org, and click the icon for the #YourSayVA Digital Town Hall to access the anonymous survey. Submissions will be accepted until December 31.
