The Atlantic Coast Conference has approved the medical hardship waiver request for Virginia men’s basketball player Mike Scott, providing Scott another year of eligibility in 2011-12.

Scott, a 6-8 forward from Chesapeake, Va., underwent two operations on his left ankle during his fourth season with the Cavaliers in 2010-11 and missed 21 games. He played in 10 games, starting nine, and averaged 15.9 points and 10.2 rebounds a game.

Scott had six double-doubles during the 2010-11 season, including five consecutive double-doubles during one stretch of the season. He is tied for eighth on UVa’s career list for double-doubles with 24 and is the first Cavalier with five consecutive double-doubles since Ralph Sampson in 1983.

He was named the ACC Player of the Week on Dec. 6, 2010, after compiling double-doubles in two road victories by the Cavaliers the previous week. He had 17 points and 12 rebounds at No. 15 Minnesota, and 21 points and 13 rebounds at Virginia Tech.

Scott has 963 points and 679 rebounds during his Virginia career.
