Lynchburg District Traffic Alert: Nov. 28-Dec. 2

road work transportationHighway work in the Lynchburg District requiring road/lane/structure closures is scheduled, weather permitting. Items in italics contain new/updated information.

NOTE:  VDOT will suspend most highway work zones and lift lane closures on interstates and other major roads in Virginia until noon Monday, Nov. 28.

 

Amherst County:  

Route 501/130 (Hunting Club Rd-existing James River Bridge) – Two-way traffic on new bridge with temporary signal. Construction continues.  Completion 4/21/17.

Route 633 over 29N & S – Bridge inspection Dec. 7 requires lane closure. Rain date – Dec. 8.

 

Appomattox County:  

Route 644 over Steele Fork Creek (Rt. 694 – Rt. 649) – Road will be closed for bridge replacement from Nov. 28 to February 17. Detour via Routes 694, 604, and 649.

 

Buckingham County: 

Route 20 over Slate River – Speed reduced during bridge replacement. Est.  comp. – 12/2017.

Various – Crews will mow, cut  brush, work surfaces and respond to customer concerns.

 

Campbell County:  

Route 29 North over Otter River – One lane of bridge closed at a time for repairs. An 11’ lane restriction is in place.  Est. comp. 12/31, weather permitting.

 

Charlotte County:   

Route 40 over Louse Creek – Be alert to equipment entering/exiting road during bridge project.

Route 805 (Craftons Gate AHQ)– Crews will work Rural Rustic project.

Craftons Gate AHQ – Crews will boom ax, add shoulder stone and install mainline and driveway pipe.

Phenix AHQ – Crews will make shoulder repairs, mow and trim trees.

Various – Crews will work surfaces and respond to customer requests.

 

Cumberland County:  

Routes 640 & 660 – Crews will install entrance pipe.

Various – Crews will mow, work surfaces and respond to customer requests.

 

Halifax County:  

Route 501 @ Rt. 40 and 632 – Construction of right turn lanes. Est. comp. May 2017.

Route 613 (VA 360 – US 360)- Closed until 12/9 for bridge work.

Route 667 over Brush Creek (657-649) – Closed 6 weeks beginning 11/28 for pipe replacement. Detour via 649, 603, 650 to 657.

Route 716 over Banister River –Closed until 11/28 to construct bridge & approaches. Detour in place.

Bethel AHQ– Crews will boom axe and mow.

Cluster Springs AHQ – Crews will clean roadsides and cut bushes on right of way. 

Volens AHQ – Crews will work shoulders.

Various –Crews will respond to customer requests.

 

Lynchburg:

Greenview Drive widening– Changes in traffic pattern during intersection improvement project. Completion July 2017.

Route 29/460 Corridor eastbound/westbound from Concord Turnpike to Candlers Mtn Rd:  Speed reduced to 45 mph for construction throughout the corridor.

Route 29/460 (501-29)– Construction traffic entering/exiting roadway. Weather permitting, lane closures may be in place from 9 pm, Friday to 6 am, Sunday, excluding holiday weekends until further notice. Use caution. Est. comp. 11/16/17.

Route 29/460 (Odd Fellows Rd Int. and Odd Fellows Rd.)– Construction traffic entering/exiting roadway. Temp. lane closures on 460 & Odd Fellows likely. Odd Fellows & Mayflower may be closed during roundabout construction. Use caution. Est. comp. 8/3/18.

Route 460, area of LU campus – LU/English Const. bridge project. Temporary barriers to be set.

 

Nelson County:  

Route 60 (657-622) – Crews will mill and pave roadway.

Routes 632 over Cove Creek & 654 over Rucker’s Run –Inspections 11/27; Rain date 11/28.

 

Pittsylvania County:  

Route 29 S over Norfolk-Southern RR –Bridge replacement. Rt. 29/803 connection temp. relocated. Southbound traffic detoured to northbound lane. Est. comp. 6/20/17.

BrosvilleAHQ – Crews will work ditches at various locations.

Gretna, Mt. Airy and Rondo AHQ – Crews will work surfaces.

Gretna and Kentuck AHQs – Crews will work shoulders.

Kentuck AHQ – Crews will mow.

Mt. Airy and Rondo AHQs – Crews will limb.

Various –Crews will boom ax and respond to customers.

 

Prince Edward County:  

Various – Crews will work surfaces, cut brush, mow, clean roadsides and ditches, repair shoulders and respond to customer requests.

 

District-wide activities: 

Guardrail maintenance – Crews will do guardrail maintenance.

Pavement markings –Pavement markings will be eradicated/restored at various locations. Caution is urged.
