Local Imagination Library wins two grants

The United Way of Greater Augusta announced today that the Dolly Parton Imagination Library is the recipient of two new grants.

Target’s Literacy Foundation and UPS have donated funds to help continue the early-childhood literacy program in the Augusta County community.

The Dolly Parton Imagination Library assures that children 0-5 years old in the Augusta County community have access to a new book once a month. This program, originally based in Tennessee, and founded by the country singer, Dolly Parton, recognizes that reading and literacy begins at home.

The United Way of Greater Augusta has worked with several foundations and local businesses to bring this program to the families of Augusta County since April.

Registration forms for the program are found at Augusta County Library branches, or by calling the United Way of Greater Augusta at 540.885.1229.

“The addition of these two funding sources will bring us closer to our goal of making this program available to the entire community,” stated Cynthia Pritchard, executive director of the

United Way of Greater Augusta. “Our program development manager, Lori Johns, has worked hard are securing the funding needed to sustain this great program. Our agency continues to work towards our goal of giving a free book once a month to every child in the Staunton, Augusta and Waynesboro communities.”
