The James Madison women’s basketball program is ranked 24th in this week’s Associated Press Top 25 media poll.

JMU has a 7-0 record that includes a 75-73 win at Virginia, ranked 19th by AP this week.

Last week the Dukes received votes in both the AP media poll and in the USA Today/ESPN Top 25 coaches poll.

This week’s USA Today/ESPN poll will be released Tuesday afternoon.

The Top 25 ranking is the first for JMU since the 2006-07 season. That year the Dukes were ranked for four consecutive weeks (Jan. 29-Feb. 19) in the AP poll with a high of No. 22 on Feb. 19.

JMU’s last USA Today/ESPN poll appearance was Feb. 19, 2007, when the Dukes were ranked 25th.

In addition to this year’s win over Virginia, JMU has beaten two teams, Georgetown (79-76) and Liberty (60-50), that have been among the vote-getters in this season’s USA Today/ESPN polls.

1987 Waynesboro High School graduate Kenny Brooks is the head coach of the women’s program at JMU.
