JMU announces conference basketball schedule

James Madison men’s basketball filled out the remainder of its 2012-13 schedule as the Colonial Athletic Association unveiled the 18-game conference slate this week.

The Dukes will play nine home games and nine road contests in CAA action.  They will square off with eight opponents both home and away while facing Hofstra in a single home matchup (Jan. 31) and traveling to Northeastern for the only meeting with the Huskies (Feb. 20).

The league slate opens with four of the first six games on the road, beginning with a road date at Old Dominion on Jan. 2.  That will be followed by Jan. 5 at Georgia State, Jan. 9 hosting UNCW, Jan. 12 hosting Drexel, Jan. 16 at George Mason and Jan. 19 at Towson.

JMU then opens a stretch of five out of six league games at the Convocation Center with Delaware (Jan. 23), Old Dominion (Jan. 26), Hofstra (Jan. 31), George Mason (Feb. 2) and William and Mary (Feb. 6) all at home sandwiched around a Jan. 28 trip to UNCW.

The final third of the schedule features Feb. 9 at Drexel, Feb. 13 hosting Towson, Feb. 16 at Delaware, Feb. 20 at Northeastern, Feb. 23 hosting Georgia State and March 2 at William and Mary.

Due to 11 teams competing in the CAA for the 2012-13 season, each playing date will have one team not in action.  For JMU, that off date is Wed., Feb. 27.  Other changes for the CAA this season include no December conference game (except for ODU@W&M Dec. 1) as well as no participation in ESPN’s BracketBusters event in late February.

The seven-team 2013 Virginia 529 CAA Championship will be held March 9-11 at the Richmond Coliseum.

All listed dates remain flexible and will not be finalized until the release of the league’s television package in mid-October.
