In tune: Barbershop quartet group looks to add new members

barbershop quartetThe Harrisonburg chapter of the Society for the Preservation & Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America is eager to add 10 new singers to its Harrisonburg Harmonizer chorus in 2016.

The chapter meets every Monday evening from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Providence Baptist Church at 1441 Erickson Ave in Harrisonburg. Guests are always welcome.

The chapter will be conducting a Special Community Guest Night on Monday, March 14.

Founded in 2008, the local chapter includes members from Basye, Mount Jackson, Broadway Harrisonburg , Staunton, Churchville, Bridgewater, Mount Sidney, Palmyra and all places in between.

The chapter is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization whose mission is to “bring men together in harmony and fellowship to enrich lives through music.” The vision is to be the premier organization in the Shenandoah Valley for men who love to sing; to continue to sing our unique brand of a cappella barbershop harmony in both quartets and choral singing; to contribute to the arts in the community though song and support of music education and performance.

The chapter has performed at the Shenandoah, Rockingham and Augusta County Fairs and at a various other venues throughout the Valley.
