Buying or selling a home is both a stressful and exciting experience. There is a real thrill of the hunt and an even greater thrill when you end up closing on the home of your dreams.

There is no doubt that this entire experience can be made a whole lot easier with the help of a great and experienced real estate agent. But how can you know what makes a great realtor?

Here are some crucial ways to make sure that you are making the right choice.

Choose the person, not their experience

While it can be enticing to choose the realtor that has the most years on the job, you should really focus primarily on what agent works with you and your significant other best. You should keep in mind that you will be spending quite a lot of time with these people and you need to have a good connection from the jump. Choose to work with some who is both reliable and relatable.

Of course, you should also hire someone who seems good at negotiating.

Ask friends and family for referrals

If you have friends and family who have recently moved in your city or town, don’t forget to ask them if they have any referrals. Not only will this potentially open your eyes to some great options for your, it could also warn you to not pursue some who people have had a bad experience with.

Find an agent who truly understand you

When it comes to finding the best agent for you, it’s all about understanding.

David from www.JaneFischer.com says that ultimately mutual understanding is crucial.

“Buying a house can be stressful, especially if it’s your first time. Make sure that your realtor understands your specific reason for wanting a new house and what you are looking given the circumstances. Outlook a realtor to see if they have the same emotions, outlook on like and personality as you and your family does.”

Find a great communicator

Even before you sign one with a specific realtor, try to take note of their communication skills. Returning calls, texts and emails should be a great indication that they will do the same once you have begun the actual process of buying a new home or selling your current one.

Make sure to do your due diligence

While asking for personal referrals is great, you can’t simply rely on your social circle to find the right realtor for you. Once you have narrowed your list down to a few great options, you should definitely take some time to do some Internet snooping and Google investigating.

Search the names and companies of the realtors you are interested in and see what kind of reviews and customers testimonials you come across. If you cannot find any reviews, you may want to consider other options even if all other signs are positive. A lack of customer testimonials or reviews indicates either a lack of experience, or an effort by the realtor or company to scrub negative reviews from the internet.
