Harrisonburg used three unearned runs in the fourth to build a working margin and rolled to an easy 9-2 win at Waynesboro Tuesday night.
But the night wasn’t a complete loss for the Generals, who saw their magic number for a playoff berth reduced to one with Covington’s 6-3 loss to Rockbridge.
Waynesboro has one game left in its 2013 regular season, on the road at Rockbridge Wednesday night. A win there, or a loss by Covington in any one of the Lumberjacks’ final five games, will give the Generals the fourth and final South Division playoff spot outright.
Tyler Fox (freshman, Nebraska-Omaha) took the tough-luck loss, giving up four runs, three unearned, in four innings of work. The loss drops Fox to 3-3 on the season.
Patirck Mazeika (freshman, Stetson) had two hits in four at-bats to improve his batting average to .384. Quinn Griffith (junior, Salisbury) and Brian Beard (freshman, Old Dominion) each had RBI singles for Waynesboro.
