Donald Trump’s waffling on his dumb Trump tariffs is fueling an increase in gas prices, with the national average up six cents a gallon with a surge in oil prices.
“Gasoline prices jumped in over three-quarters of U.S. states over the last week, as oil prices surged following President Trump’s decision to reduce tariffs and strike new trade deals – moves that inspired optimism that a major tariff-induced economic slowdown might be avoided,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, which reported on Monday that the national average price of gasoline had risen 6.1 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.14 per gallon today.
The average in Virginia is $2.96 a gallon – with Waynesboro at $2.89 a gallon, Charlottesville, Staunton and Nelson County at $2.97 a gallon, and Harrisonburg at $3.05 a gallon, per GasBuddy.
The national average price of diesel has increased 2.9 cents in the last week and stands at $3.50 per gallon.
