Virginia Cooperative Extension will hold its 2016 Annual Forage Field Day July 28 at the Southern Piedmont Agricultural Research and Extension Center near Blackstone.
The event will begin at 2:30 p.m. with a summer annual and forage-variety sorghum tour, followed by dinner at 5 and a silvopasture tour at 6 that will examine integration of livestock and forage production with forestry. Speaker topics will include the impact of shade on cool-season forage mixtures, selecting summer annual varieties, forage sorghums for silage systems and considerations for silvopasture establishment.
