Forage field day set for July 28

newspaperVirginia Cooperative Extension will hold its 2016 Annual Forage Field Day July 28 at the Southern Piedmont Agricultural Research and Extension Center near Blackstone.

The event will begin at 2:30 p.m. with a summer annual and forage-variety sorghum tour, followed by dinner at 5 and a silvopasture tour at 6 that will examine integration of livestock and forage production with forestry. Speaker topics will include the impact of shade on cool-season forage mixtures, selecting summer annual varieties, forage sorghums for silage systems and considerations for silvopasture establishment.
