Virginia Tech ran up 275 yards on the ground in the second half and OT in a 42-34 win over Cal, which is next up for #15 Virginia, on Saturday at 3:45 p.m. ET on the Left Coast.

The ‘Hoos (7-1, 4-0 ACC) are a 3.5-point favorite over the Golden Bears (5-3, 2-2 ACC) going in.

Virginia has won six straight, but three of the last four have gone to OT – and the one that didn’t was won with a safety inside of three minutes to go, in the 22-20 win over Washington State in Week 8.

Cal had rallied from an early 10-0 deficit to lead 20-10 going into the break last Friday night down in Blacksburg, before the doors came off its defense.

The Hokies (3-5, 2-2 ACC) ran on 58 of their 76 snaps – 36 of their 44 in the second half and OT.

Cal’s true freshman QB, Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele, was 24-of-39 passing for 285 yards and a TD in the loss.

Sagapolutele is averaging 247.8 yards per game this season, completing 61.0 percent of his passes, and has 11 TDs and seven INTs.

Junior tailback Kendrick Raphael has 566 yards and eight TDs on the ground this season, averaging 4.2 yards per attempt.

Slot receiver Jacob De Jesus is second in the ACC with 55 receptions, and big (6’4”, 205) redshirt senior wideout Trond Grizzell averages 17.3 yards per on his 28 catches.

Cal is 3-1 at home this season – the loss coming on Oct. 4, a 45-21 setback to Duke.
