Early-morning accident causes headaches for drivers on I-81

AFP

i81-headerAn accident early Friday morning on Interstate 81 at mile marker 234 in the Weyers Cave area shut down a long stretch of the interstate for several hours.

The 5:15 a.m. accident involved a double-trailered commercial vehicle heading north on I-81 that fishtailed after a gust of wind caught the rear trailer. The trailer then overturned bringing down with it the first trailer and the tractor.

The tractor-trailer ended up overturning across both northbound lanes of I-81. The driver, of Greenville, S.C., suffered only minor injuries in the crash. He was not transported for treatment.

No charges will be placed. No other vehicles were involved.

A single lane of I-81 was finally opened after 11 a.m. Friday.
