DSCC poll: Kaine leads Senate race by four

A new Virginia Senate poll conducted for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee shows Democratic nominee Tim Kaine leading Republican opponent George Allen by four points.

The poll, conducted by Garin-Hart-Yang, shows Kaine with 48 percent support to Allen’s 44 percent. It also has him leading by 10 points among women (51 percent to 41 percent) and 7 among independents (46 percent to 39 percent).

Kaine’s favorability stands at 41 percent in the survey, while Allen is seen favorably by 37 percent of respondents. As the airwaves brim with negative ads hitting both, each is seen unfavorably by 34 percent of respondents.

The survey of 802 likely voters was conducted October 15 to 18, and the survey’s margin of error is plus-or-minus 3.5 percentage points.
