Democratic Party of Virginia Chairwoman Susan Swecker released the following statement regarding Roanoke Mayor David Bowers’ statement on Syrian refugees.“The lights of Star City are dimmed tonight. Mayor Bowers is absolutely wrong. As a Virginian, an American, and a Democrat, I am saddened by his statement. To suggest any policy similar to one of our darkest moments for human rights would send a wrong message to our country and the world. The Democratic Party of Virginia does not stand behind Mayor Bowers’ statements and we strongly condemn them.”
