Communication studies, theater awards presented at Bridgewater College

bridgewater collegeKirsten Lambert and Philip Meador were presented the Outstanding Senior Award from the department of communication studies and Angela Tolomei received the Outstanding Theatre Artist Award at Bridgewater College during the college awards ceremony on April 22.

The Outstanding Senior Award from the department of communication studies is presented to the outstanding graduating seniors in communication, technology and culture and is based on academic performance, leadership, excellence in writing, and internship and work experience.

Lambert, a communication, technology and culture and art double major, is the daughter of Keith Lambert of Crimora, Va., and Candi Lambert of Bridgewater, Va.

She is a staff writer with BC Voice, the student-run media organization on campus, and served as layout editor of Veritas, the student-run newspaper, from spring 2017 to spring 2018.

As part of the college’s annual ASPIRE (Arts, Scholarship, Performance, Innovation and Research Excellence) celebration April 14 – 24, Lambert served on a communication studies student panel discussion, “Digital Scholarship: Expanding the College Education.”

For the past three summers, Lambert served as a public relations intern with Augusta Military Academy Alumni House and Museum.

Meador, a communication, technology and culture major, is the son of Kirby and Donna Meador of Roanoke, Va.

Meador is a member of the Philomathes Society, Bridgewater’s scholastic honor society. He is a member of BC Voice and serves as a Student Ambassador.

Lambert and Meador are members of Lambda Pi Eta, a national communication honor society.

Both Lambert and Meador will graduate on May 5. Meador will pursue a master’s degree in writing rhetoric and technical communication at James Madison University.

The Outstanding Theatre Artist Award is presented to the student who exhibits exceptional accomplishment in theatrical performance, production and scholarship.

Tolomei, a sophomore theatre major, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Tolomei of Hampstead, Md.

Tolomei is a member of the college’s Flory Honors Program and serves as president of the Pinion Players, the student-run theatre organization.

She has performed in and directed numerous productions at Bridgewater College. She played the role of Marie in Woyzeck by Georg Buchner and Lilith in The Love Song of J. Robert Oppenheimer by Carson Kreitzer. She also was cast in the premier of This Too Comes by Hard by James E. Custer, a 2015 Bridgewater College graduate, which was performed at the Washington D.C. Capitol Fringe Festival in July 2017.

As part of ASPIRE, Tolomei co-directed with Custer a performance of Duncan Macmillan’s Lungs.

Bridgewater College is a private, four-year liberal arts college located in the Central Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Founded in 1880, it was the state’s first private, coeducational college. Today, Bridgewater College is home to more than 1,900 undergraduate students.
