A Charlottesville teen is in custody on charges related to a Nov. 26 shooting incident in the 800 block of Hardy Drive.

Zamir Javon Wheeler, 19, of Charlottesville, has been charged with attempted malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony in relation to the incident, which involved shots fired into an occupied vehicle, according to Charlottesville Police.

A search warrant was executed at Wheeler’s residence, located at 108 Lankford Ave., on Tuesday morning, according to the Charlottesville PD, and officers recovered a handgun, ammunition, and other items of evidentiary value there.

An additional search warrant related to a separate incident was executed at 824 D Hardy Dr., where ammunition and items of evidentiary value were seized.

“Today, our officers took decisive action to protect the safety of Charlottesville by apprehending an individual alleged to be involved in gun violence,” Police Chief Mike Kochis said. “Let this serve as a clear and unwavering message: we are fully committed to safeguarding our neighborhoods and will relentlessly pursue those who threaten the peace and security of our community. We will continue to use every resource at our disposal to combat violence and hold offenders accountable.”
