Bridge repairs on VDOT project list

At its October meeting, the Commonwealth Transportation Board awarded regional bridge contracts which include repairs to 21 bridge structures in the Virginia Department of Transportation Staunton District. The award is part of the commonwealth’s continued efforts to invest nearly $695 million in highway funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

The repairs in the Staunton District involve superstructure and substructure work. Superstructure work will involve beam, stringers and bridge deck replacement, and culvert work. Substructure work will include concrete surface repairs and crack sealing.

Infrastructure Corp. of America of Brentwood, Tenn. was awarded a $8,995,135 contract to repair bridge decks and bridge superstructures in the Culpeper, Northern Virginia and Staunton districts. This contract has a fixed completion date of Sept. 25, 2011. The total cost of all phases of the construction work from the VDOT six year program is $12,503,300. In the Staunton District the structures are as follows:

Alleghany County
Route 661 – Bridge over Johnsons Creek will receive superstructure replacement work.

Rockbridge County
Route 603 – Two bridges over Irish Creek will receive superstructure replacement work.
Route 611 – Bridge over South Buffalo Creek will receive superstructure replacement work.

Augusta County
Route 664 – Bridge over Back Creek will receive superstructure replacement work.
Route 721 – Bridge over Middle River will receive superstructure replacement work.
Route 971 – Bridge over South River will receive superstructure replacement work.

Highland County
Route 654 – Bridge over a tributary of Bullpasture River will receive superstructure replacement work.

Rockingham County
Route 11 (South Valley Pike Road) – Bridge over Cooks Creek at Mount Crawford will receive superstructure replacement work.
Route 624 – Bridge over Elk Run will receive superstructure replacement work.
Route 631 – Bridge over Little Dry River will receive superstructure replacement work.
Route 671 – Bridge over Mill Creek will receive superstructure replacement work.
Route 722 – Bridge over Mountain Run will receive superstructure replacement work.
Route 955 – Bridge over Madison Run will receive superstructure replacement work.

Shenandoah County
Route 601- Bridge over Tumbling Run will receive superstructure replacement work.
Route 678 – Bridge over a tributary of Passage Creek will receive superstructure replacement work.

Frederick County
Route 657- Bridge over Interstate 81 will receive bridge deck replacement work.

Page County
Route 211 eastbound lane – Bridge over Pass Run will receive superstructure replacement work.

CLECO Corp. of Rosedale was awarded a $914,000 contract for culvert replacement work in the Salem and Staunton districts. This contract has a fixed completion date of Sept. 25, 2011. The total cost of all phases of the construction work from the VDOT six year program is $1,270,500. In the Staunton District the work is located at:

Bath County
Route 600 – Bridge over a tributary of Mill Creek will receive culvert replacement work.

Shenandoah County
Route 600 – Bridge over Shell Run will receive culvert replacement work.
Route 645 – Bridge over a tributary of the North Fork of the Shenandoah River will receive culvert replacement work.
