Brackets announced for ACC Tournament

The No. 1-seeded Virginia baseball team will open play at the 2011 ACC Baseball Championship at 3 p.m. Wednesday when it battles No. 8 seed Wake Forest at Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, N.C.

Virginia and Wake Forest will compete in Division A along with No. 4 seed North Carolina and No. 5 seed Miami in the pool-play format. Virginia also is scheduled to play at 11 a.m. Friday against Miami and 7 p.m. Saturday versus North Carolina.

The four teams in Division A will play each other once, and the team with the best record will advance to face the top team in Division B in the championship game at 1 p.m. Sunday. Division B consists of No. 2 seed Florida State, No. 3 Georgia Tech, No. 6 Clemson and No. 7 North Carolina State. The winner of the championship game earns the ACC’s automatic berth into the 2011 NCAA Tournament.

Coming off its second-consecutive ACC Coastal Division championship, Virginia (45-9, 22-8 ACC) has earned the top seed in the ACC Baseball Championship for the second straight year and the third time since 1985. Virginia won nine of its 10 ACC series this season.

Comcast Mid-Atlantic Plus, Fox Sports South and SunSports will have live television coverage of the Virginia-Wake Forest game on Wednesday. Comcast Mid-Atlantic, Fox Sports South and Fox Sports Florida will broadcast the UVa-Miami contest. The Virginia-North Carolina matchup will be shown live on Comcast Mid-Atlantic, Fox Sports South, SunSports and NESN.

Locally, WINA 1070-AM will have radio coverage of all of Virginia’s tournament action. The radio broadcasts also will be streamed online at VirginiaSports.com (subscription service).
