Better to marry for love, or money?

Chris Graham

theater-masks2Love for Love is William Congreve’s witty farce that asks the question: “Is it better to marry for love or money?”

The story follows two brothers who attempt to follow their hearts without losing their inheritance. The play is a racy, broad, farcical comedy, which relies on mistaken impressions, disguises, and deception for much of its humor. The dialogue negotiates the arena of sexual conquest, gender relations, and marriage in ways that still resonate with modern audiences.

Preview the show on Wednesday at the American Shakespeare Center in Staunton at 7:30. The official opening is Friday at 7:30, Pay What You Will. This is the final show of the winter Actors Renaissance Season. It will only run for seven (7) performances.
