A Baltimore man is in police custody after a pursuit on Interstate 395 northbound this afternoon.

Rashad Smith has been charged with felony eluding, felony hit and run, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to Virginia State Police, a trooper attempted to stop Smith who had previously eluded an Alexandria City Police Department officer. The suspect vehicle did not stop, and the pursuit was initiated at approximately 4:15 p.m.

The suspect vehicle exited I-395 at Shirlington Circle. The pursuit then continued from Arlington Mill Drive to South Randolph Street, where the suspect vehicle struck a vehicle.

Smith abandoned his vehicle in a nearby parking garage and attempted to flee on foot.

With the assistance of Arlington County Police and Alexandra City Police, he was captured a short time later.

Smith has been transported to the Arlington County Adult Detention Center.
