Peter LynchThe Albemarle County Board of Supervisors has appointed Peter Lynch as county assessor effective April 6.

Prior to this promotion, Lynch had served as Albemarle’s assistant county assessor since 2015, where he directly managed the reorganization of the land use application process and oversaw improvements to the organization and accounting of building permits.

During his time with the county, Lynch also worked very closely with an International Association of Assessment Officers consultant and staff to develop a field guide for appraisers, and has been an integral part of the team working on the county’s new Computer Aided Mass Appraisal system.

“Peter’s professional competencies, leadership qualities, ethical beliefs, and his commitment to excellence make him an ideal candidate for this role,” said finance director Betty Burrell. “We view his appointment as a continuing sign of our commitment to being stewards of the county’s finances as well as our strong focus on promoting excellence, quality, and efficiency of operations.”

Lynch’s most recent role, prior to joining the county in 2015, was as the commercial real estate appraiser supervisor for the City of Virginia Beach, where he worked since 2001. He has extensive expertise in the area of mass appraisals and is a candidate for Assessment Administration Specialist, a distinguished certification earned through IAAO.

Lynch earned his bachelor of science degree in real estate from Old Dominion University, and an associate degree in business administration from Tidewater Community College. He completed the UVA Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service Leadership, Education, and Development (LEAD) training program in 2015.
