The game between Virginia and Miami three weeks ago in Charlottesville was, all of us who were there to see it, a second weekend NCAA Tournament-quality game.

Friday night, it’s an ACC Tournament semifinal game.

Virginia won the first one on three free throws from Chance Mallory with 3.2 seconds left.

Game Details

  • Miami (25-7, 14-5 ACC, NET: 32) vs. Virginia (28-4, 16-3 ACC, NET: 13)
  • Day/Time: Friday, 7 p.m. ET
  • TV: ESPN

Forecast

  • KenPom: Virginia 75-72
  • BartTorvik: Virginia 74-71

Miami bullied Virginia, which we haven’t seen really all season, here in Year 1 of the Ryan Odom Era, where the focus going in is, We’re the bullies.

The ‘Canes owned the boards – 30-23 was the topline number, but diving in, the ‘Hoos, third nationally in offensive-rebound rate coming in, had four offensive boards; Miami had 12, and an 18-2 advantage in second-chance points.

Miami outscored Virginia 40-30 in the paint.

Despite getting run up in two of the key Odom Ball stats, Virginia got the dub.

Just looking at the box score, though, not sure how.
