Why is Syracuse playing Colgate, one, and two, why is the game in prime time on ACC Network?

Whatever the reason why is, ACCN has this one tonight at 7 p.m. ET.

Not just picking on Syracuse here.

UVA is hosting William & Mary, UNC is hosting Richmond, both on Saturday.

In Week 1, Duke had Elon, Pitt faced Duquesne, Boston College played Fordham, Louisville scheduled Eastern Kentucky.

East Texas A&M played SMU in Week 1 and FSU in Week 2, which also had Garder-Webb at Georgia Tech, Western Carolina at Wake Forest, Texas Southern at Cal and Bethune-Cookman at Miami.

I’m old enough to remember ACC Commissioner Jim Phillips bragging to the media at the ACC Kickoff about the ACC’s nonconference schedule.

This is a joke, right?

Game Notes: Syracuse (1-1) enters Friday’s matchup with a perfect 22-0 record against FCS opponents since the division split in 1978.

The Orange are coming off a dramatic 27-20 overtime win at UConn in Week 2, rallying from an 11-point deficit in the final six minutes. It marked their fourth halftime comeback victory since 2023, tying them for the most nationally with Georgia, Penn State and UNLV.

Steve Angeli passed for 417 yards and two touchdowns against the Huskies. His 690 passing yards this season rank second in the ACC and sixth in the FBS. Syracuse also stands third in the conference and 10th nationally in passing offense (345.0 ypg).

Yasin Willis has contributed four rushing touchdowns, good for second in the ACC and third nationally.

Defensively, the Orange limited UConn to 4-of-17 on third downs.

Colgate (0-2) opened its 2025 season against ranked FCS opponents No. 22 Monmouth and No. 12 Villanova. The Raiders finished 2-10 last season with wins over Cornell and Georgetown.

Senior wide receiver Treyvhon Saunders, a preseason All-American, Walter Payton Award Watch List candidate and All-Patriot League selection, leads the Colgate offense.
