A pair of late threes from Sammy Zeglinski and Joe Harris broke open a close game, and #23 Virginia made its free throws late to seal a 57-52 win at LSU Monday night.

The Tigers (10-4) hadn’t lost since the week of Thanksgiving, and seemed poised for the upset when a Jalen McCourtney three-pointer put them up 42-37 with 11:00 to go. UVa. (13-1) pulled even at 44 at the 7:55 mark on a three-pointer by Harris and took the lead for good on a stickback by Assane Sene that made it 48-47 Virginia with 5:12 to go.

Zeglinski’s fourth three of the game made it 51-47 with 3:27 to go, and after LSU pulled to 51-50 on a trifecta by Anthony Hickey at 2:10, Harris’ second three, with 1:34 left, made it 54-50 Cavaliers.

A Justin Hamilton jumper with 55 seconds to go pulled LSU back to 54-52, and the Tigers had a chance to hold for the last shot after Harris had a runner in the lane blocked by Ralston Turner. But Sene poked the loose ball to Zeglinski, who made one of two free throws to make it a three-point game at 55-52 with 18 seconds left.

Turner missed an open three at the top of the key with nine seconds left, and Mike Scott was fouled after pulling in the rebound and made both of his charity tosses to seal the deal.

The win was the 11th in a row for Virginia, which begins ACC play Saturday at home against Miami,

Zeglinski had 17 points to lead Virginia. Harris had 14 points and Scott had 12 points and a game-high nine rebounds for the ‘Hoos.

Hamilton had 21 points to lead LSU.
