St. Thomas More and Fishburne traded blows for 40 minutes before Kuran Iverson would drill a step-back three-pointer to force overtime, but More took control in the extra period to pull out the 85-76 upset of the third-ranked Caissons in the National Prep Showcase on Saturday.
Iverson and Zach Lewis led he way for Fishburne from start to finish, ending with 24 and 18 points, respectively, including one highlight alley-oop that delighted the local crowd.
The Caissons seemed poised to take control of the game early, but back-to-back turnovers led to a 9-2 run for St. Thomas More, ranked 10th in the nation coming in.
Duane Notice put up his second consecutive big performance for STM, finishing with 21 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the floor, while Gabe Levin was huge with 20 points of his own. Marquis Moore came alive late, sparking the Chancellor offense in the extra period, as they pulled away once and for all in the final moments.
FMS came into the game the highest-ranked team without a loss into the Prep Showcase, and had been poised to be the nation’s top team going into the Thanksgiving break with a win.
Next up for the Caissons will be the Best Western Caisson Shootout Nov. 29-Dec. 1.
The event will feature six of the top 20 prep teams in the country.
