Lighted ballfield a coming reality in Waynesboro

Waynesboro will soon have its first lighted youth baseball field. That’s the news Monday afternoon with word that the city has received approval of a Baseball Tomorrow grant in the amount of $124,694 that will be used to build a brand-new baseball facility at North Park.

City parks and recreation department director David Van Covern confirmed the news in an e-mail today. Van Covern said a formal award letter should be forthcoming to the city in the next 10 days.

Van Covern indicated that he expects that the new lighted ballfield would be ready for play on Opening Day of the 2010 youth baseball season next April.
