Kuran Iverson: Team goals prevail

Kuran Iverson is one of the nation’s top basketball recruits. The 6’10” Memphis commit who projects as a first-round NBA draft pick could be excused for thinking me-first.

But for Iverson, a native of Hartford, Conn., and a distant cousin of NBA legend Allen Iverson, his senior season at Fishburne Military School is all about the team.

“I’ve talked with my teammates, and we’re definitely looking for a national championship,” said Iverson, whose Caissons are currently ranked #3 in the nation after a pair of wins on the road at the St. John’s (Wisc.) Military Classic.

FMS improved to 3-0 on the season after an easy 111-53 win over Richard Bland Community College in the opener of the Holiday Inn Express Tip-Off Challenge on Thursday. Iverson led the way with 25 points in limited action in the blowout win.

In the course of leading his team to victory, he showed the skillset that has college coaches and NBA draft analysts drooling – throwing down a thunderous dunk, draining four three-pointers, hounding ballhandlers at point and on the perimeter and erasing two shots in the paint.
