A Food Lion-backed charity has provided a $3,700 grant to Feeding Greene to support a Greene County backpack program.
“We collaborate with all our local schools in Greene County to provide food to children at risk of food insecurity each weekend through the school year. We also provide holiday and summer boxes for the times of the year the children are out of school. Thank you for supporting our mission that no one goes to bed hungry in our community,” said Rhonda Oliver, the director at Feeding Greene, which has been providing supplemental food assistance to area families in need since 1995.
The nonprofit is currently serving more than 870 families who receive over 63,000 pounds of food each month.
The Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation issued the grant through its Nourishing our Neighbors program, which supports community feeding partners by helping neighbors increase their access to nutritious food and providing nutrition education to eliminate health risks for those experiencing food insecurity.
Established in 2001, the Foundation provides financial support for programs and organizations dedicated to feeding local neighbors in the communities it serves.
Since its inception, the Foundation has awarded more than $25 million in grant funding to help nourish communities with fresh food.
