FMS Hoops Today: Dixon building at FMS

Daniel Dixon was flying beneath the recruiting radar after an injury suffered the summer before his senior year put him on the shelf.

The 6’5′, 190-pound guard from Langley High School (Great Falls, Va.) gave the postgrad option a try, and decided on Fishburne after meeting Coach Huckaby and deciding quickly that a year under his wing would help him grow on the court and off.

“It’s definitely changed the path of where I was going,” said Dixon, who concedes that as a young high-school player he was “kind of lazy.”

“I got slapped out of that quickly when I came here. That’s made me a better person overall. Definitely more disciplined,” said Dixon, who has committed to the College of William & Mary with plans to sign with the Tribe on National Signing Day next week.

Disciplined – and a better basketball player. Just surviving practice every day at FMS is a test of one’s will, considering the talent on the court.

“Going against some of the top players in the country every single day is a test. It’s competitive. Every practice is competitive. It’s like a tryout every single practice. You’re competing for your spot. You’re never safe,” Dixon said.
