The Center for Innovative Technology announced this week that this year’s EMERGE Accelerator program will culminate with a Demo Day in San Francisco on September 23rd. The EMERGE program is a unique public-private partnership that was launched earlier this year to help speed the delivery of the latest innovative wearable technologies for first responders.
The Demo Day will showcase the entrepreneurs who have participated in the EMERGE program as they present their companies to a group of accredited investors and other government and industry stakeholders from across the county. Participating companies include several startups from the TechWildcatters Accelerator, along with a number of more mature early stage companies from the TechNexus Venture Collaborative. The event will showcase a wide range of innovative technologies such as mouth guards that use bone conduction technology for communication; devices for sensory impaired users that can help first responders locate people in challenging environments; a triage language translator for patients to communicate with first responders; and protective gloves with embedded equipment controls to remotely control devices.
The program, a partnership of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology Directorate (S&T) and CIT, is part of a larger DHS S&T initiative to engage entrepreneurs and their innovative ideas and technologies for the homeland security mission. CIT selected two business accelerators Tech Wildcatters, of Dallas, Tx. and TechNexus, of Chicago, Il. to discover and foster innovative individuals and companies with commercial wearable technology for first responder operations. Both TechNexus and Tech Wildcatters held individual events in their respective cities over the past few weeks to showcase the participating companies.
