Staunton City Council announced the appointments of Greg Campbell and Bruce Elder to the board of directors at the Staunton Economic Development Authority (SEDA), a body that serves as a catalyst for economic growth in the city. Both will serve a four-year term on the board.
Campbell has been the executive director of the Shenandoah Valley Regional Airport since 1992. He holds a B.A. in Political Science from Bridgewater College and is a licensed, commercial multi-engine pilot. Campbell has been involved in approximately $30 million in capital improvements, overseeing the expansion and rehabilitation of nearly every area of the airport. He is also responsible for the creation of the airport’s Marketing and Air Service Development Program.
Campbell has a long history of public service in the Valley. He has served as the chair of the Shenandoah Valley Partnership and continues to serve as chair emeritus for the Valley’s regional economic development organization. He is also a member of the board of directors of the Augusta Regional Chamber of Commerce and has previously served on the boards of the Blue Ridge Community College Foundation and the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Chamber of Commerce.
Likewise, Bruce Elder has served the public previously as a member of Staunton City Council and on numerous downtown revitalization and economic development projects. While on Council, Elder acted as a Council liaison in multiple capacities, including to the Staunton Downtown Development Association. He has been a board member for organizations such as the R.R. Smith Center for History and Art and the Virginia First Cities coalition.
Elder has owned an antique automobile dealership in Staunton for 42 years and has operated his small business in a historic downtown property since 1989. Elder Antique and Classic Automobiles has done business in 24 countries and 42 states across the U.S.
