Two teens dead in overnight car crash in Augusta County

policecar3Two Dayton teens died in a two-vehicle crash that occurred early Monday (March 16) morning in Augusta County. The crash occurred at 2:30 a.m. on Route 727, approximately 2/10 of a mile east of Route 730.

A 2015 Kia Sportage was traveling west on Route 727 when it crossed the centerline. The Kia continued off the left side of the road, struck a tree, and then struck a fence and a tree.

The driver, Jordan Christine Long, 17, of Dayton, Va., and the front-seat passenger, Taylor Elaine Michael, 17, of Dayton, Va., both died at the scene. Neither was wearing a seat belt.

The two back seat passengers – a 17-year-old female and Tyler W. Lambert, 19, of Bridgewater, Va. – were both transported to Rockingham Memorial Hospital for treatment of serious, but non-life threatening injuries. Neither back seat passenger was wearing a seat belt.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation at this time.
