The Alpha Vision Films documentary film “Oyster Preservation on the Great Wicomico” will be featured on WVPT’s “Virginia Farming” this weekend and will also air next week on RFD-TV.

The documentary is a sojourn to “river country” in Virginia’s Northern Neck to meet waterman and marine research specialist Malcolm Luebkert, who demonstrates his work to preserve oysters on the Great Wicomico River using “spat on shell” harvesting, a revolutionary approach topreserving the fragile Chesapeake Bay habitat.

“Oyster Preservation on the Great Wicomico” is produced, written and directed by James Overton of Alpha Vision Films, which is based in Waynesboro. Mark Miller is director of photography, and Theresa Reynolds Curry is associate producer.

Hosted by WVPT’s Amy Roscher, “Virginia Farming” is the Commonwealth’s only locally produced weekly televised farming news series. Now celebrating its 11-year anniversary, “Virginia Farming” has been recognized with four top journalism awards from the Virginia Farm Bureau Federation for outstanding farm news communication, as well as a myriad of accolades and recognitions from industry experts.

Air dates on WVPT:

  • Friday, Dec. 20 at 7:30 p.m.
  • Saturday, Dec. 21 at 12 noon
  • Sunday, Dec. 22 at 11 a.m.

“Oyster Preservation on the Great Wicomico” will also broadcast nation-wide via RFD-TV on
Tuesday, Dec. 24 at 3 p.m.
