jmu logoJames Madison men’s basketball head coach Matt Brady announced the signing of incoming freshman forward Yohanny Dalembert of Philadelphia to a national letter of intent on Monday.

“We are excited to add Yohanny to our program and to what has become a diverse group of newcomers with some size and length,” noted Brady. “He possesses a tremendous set of intangibles with mobility, defensive toughness and a shot-blocking prowess, a combination that gives him a high ceiling for potential growth.”

Dalembert, who stands 6-foot, 8-inches and 225 pounds filled a key role in leading Lower Merion High School to a Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) AAAA state championship.  He averaged 11.3 points, 9.4 rebounds and 4.1 blocks per game in a 32-3 season that concluded with a 63-47 upset of Chester at the Giant Center in Hershey.  Dalembert had 10 points and seven boards as the Aces halted the Clippers’ streak of 78 straight wins against Pennsylvania foes. It was just the third state title in the last 70 years for LMHS, the first by a team featuring Kobe Bryant in 1996.

The half-brother of 6-foot, 11-inch NBA veteran Samuel Dalembert, Yohanny Dalembert only started playing basketball at age 15.  He moved to the United States from Haiti following the 2010 Haiti earthquake.

Dalembert joins an incoming class that also includes point guard Jackson Kent, forward Paulius Satkus, forward Tom Vodanovich, forward Tom Rivard and forward Ivan Lukic.
