Damin Altizer, a Millboro native and Bath County High School alum who was a walk-on with the UVA Basketball team in the 2006-2007 season, has been hired to the staff of women’s head coach Aaron Roussell as director of player development.

Altizer, a 2009 UVA alum, returns to Grounds after a seven-year stint was the head boys’ varsity basketball coach at St. Anne’s-Belfield and a year as the girls’ coach at Covenant.

During his time at the two schools, Altizer coached 10 players that went on to play for D1 programs.

Prior to all of that, Altizer, through DR1VEN Training, which he founded in 2012, worked with UVA standouts such as Sam Brunelle, Ty Jerome, Devon Hall, De’Andre Hunter, London Perrantes, Trey Murphy and Justin Anderson.

In 2026, Altizer was named a Top 50 trainer in the country by TheTrainer50.

Seems like getting this guy on a UVA staff is long overdue.

“I feel very fortunate to add Damin to our staff,” Roussell said. “Damin is in the top tier of player development coaches in the county and is a natural fit philosophically with the rest of our coaches. We want to prepare our players to succeed at the next level and Damin has proven he can do that at an elite level.”
