Report: Trump economy sheds 23,000 jobs in July, 100K+ in May and June

The jobs report released by the Labor Department on Friday had the U.S. economy suffering a net loss of 23,000 jobs in July, and revised the numbers for May and June to indicate that we lost 103,000 jobs over that two-month period.

And it gets worse: 264,000 people dropped out of the labor market last month.

What that means: they’re not looking for a job anymore.

They’ve given up.

The share of those working or looking for work is now at 61.4 percent, the lowest since February 2021.

February 2021, you may remember, was at the depths of the COVID pandemic.

Somebody at the Labor Department is about to get sacked.

Seriously, how dare they release such a damning report, on the eve of the 2026 congressional midterms.

Gotta love the take on this from the White House, which highlighted miniscule gains in construction and manufacturing in July – totaling 27,000 jobs, in a country of 330 million people.

“The Trump industrial resurgence is on schedule,” administration spokesman Kush Desai said.

Orwell would be proud.

I know, I know, it’s treasonous for me to report this, because it makes Trump look bad.

“Today’s jobs report is deeply alarming and offers some of the clearest evidence yet that President Trump’s policies are doing serious damage to the American economy,” said Don Beyer, the Northern Virginia congressman who is the senior House Democrat on the Joint Economic Committee.

More from Beyer, who, I should add, is also being treasonous here:

“As Americans struggle to afford groceries, electricity, housing and healthcare, Donald Trump is abusing the presidency to enrich himself while insulating himself and his family immunity from tax audits. Republicans in Congress are standing by while working families pay the price. It is a complete disgrace and a profound dereliction of our duty to the American people,” Beyer said.
