As of the 8:30 p.m. update from the Virginia State Board of Elections, Republican Mitt Romney had a 136,000-vote lead over Democrat Barack Obama in Virginia.
With 41 percent of the state’s precincts reporting, Romney had 55.2 percent of the vote to Obama’s 43.2 percent.
In the U.S. Senate race, Republican George Allen had a 94,000-vote lead over Democrat Tim Kaine – with 53.3 percent of the vote for Allen to 46.5 percent of the vote to Kaine.
Of note: Precincts in Northern Virginia and Hampton Roads that provided a more than 250,000-vote margin combined for Obama in 2008 have not started reporting results.
