The new library director in Augusta County has been on the job for almost a month and plans to deliver services that are “welcoming” to the community.

Natalie Hutchinson began her role just before Christmas on Dec. 16.

She has big shoes to fill after the former director, Jennifer Brown, recently left to assume the role as executive director for the Virginia Library Association.

Hutchinson also takes over approximately six months after the controversial move by the Board of Supervisors to cancel a planned Pride event at the library just days before the event was scheduled.

“I am honored to join Augusta County Library and work alongside such a dedicated staff and engaged community,” said Hutchinson. “Libraries play a vital role in connecting people to information, opportunity and one another.

“I look forward to collaborating with staff and residents to continue building services that are welcoming and responsive to the community’s needs.”

She previously served as the branch manager at Central Library in Prince William County, approximately two hours from Augusta County by interstate. In that role, Hutchinson revitalized Makerspace services, launched a digital preservation lab, advanced bilingual teen technology partnerships and led a range of community-centered initiatives designed to expand participation and create more welcoming and accessible library spaces.
