A State Police trooper was injured after a suspect rammed their vehicle in a pursuit in Virginia and Maryland Monday night on the Beltway.

Virginia State Police report the trooper suffered injuries after their car struck a guardrail near exit 3A on Interstate 495.

According to VSP, at approximately 11:47 p.m., the trooper attempted to stop a vehicle reported stolen in Alexandria, but the suspect did not stop, and a pursuit was initiated.

The pursuit went onto Route 1 southbound and then onto Interstate 495 eastbound, where the initial trooper and a second trooper attempted to stop the vehicle. At this point, the suspect vehicle then rammed the initial trooper.

The trooper suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the crash and was taken to an area hospital.  The trooper was released earlier this morning.

The pursuit then continued into Maryland, where Maryland State Police and U.S. Park Police eventually took over the pursuit and took the suspect into custody.

Charges against the suspect are pending in Virginia.
