Albemarle County Fire Rescue has released the name of the victim in Tuesday’s deadly home explosion in the Glenmore neighborhood of Keswick.
Justine M. Joscelyne, 76, of Keswick, died on the scene. According to ACFR, she was checking on the home at 2331 Ferndown Lane and had contacted an adult male to assist her in locating the source of a suspected gas smell before the explosion.
The male, whose name has not been released, was injured and transported to UVA Health in serious condition. He was later transferred to the VCU Burn Center for further treatment of his injuries. He remains hospitalized and is now in stable condition.
The homeowners were not present at the time of the explosion, which occurred at approximately 6 p.m.
Authorities believe a gas leak was the cause of the incident are were investigating the distribution lines and appliances as the possible source.
The home was completely leveled to the ground. Twelve neighboring homes were initially inspected and occupants were displaced due to varying levels of property damage.
In total, ACFR has assessed 202 nearby homes over the last 72 hours.

The preliminary investigation is now complete.
The Albemarle County Fire Marshal’s office is continuing to review and analyze additional data related to the explosion.
The Albemarle County Police Department, Albemarle County Community Development Department, Charlottesville Fire Department, the regional Emergency Communications Center, Virginia State Police, American Red Cross, Virginia Department of Emergency Management and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives assisted ACFR in the incident.
