Dominion Energy is closely monitoring Tropical Storm Debby for potential record rainfall, heavy winds and potential damage.

“All hands are on deck, and our crews remain flexible no matter the direction and timing of the storm, and as always, are ready to respond,” read an alert sent to customers in the state on Tuesday.

Heavy rains and flooding can saturate the soil, loosening root systems and toppling trees which can take down poles and overhead lines. If you see a downed power line, stay away, and report it immediately.

Dominion Energy also urges Virginians to prepare in advance of the storm.

Tips from Dominion Energy

  • Pack or rebuild an emergency kit with flashlights, batteries, portable radio, first-aid kit and enough bottled water and non-perishable food to last several days.
  • Download the Dominion Energy app for the quickest, easiest, and most secure way to report power outages and check the status of your outage.
  • Stay connected before, during and after storms by making sure your email and mobile number are current. Sign in to your account and select “My Profile” under Account to confirm your contact information.
  • If you see a downed power line, stay away, and report it immediately, by calling 866-366-4357. Heavy rains and flooding can saturate the soil, loosening root systems and toppling trees which can take down poles and overhead lines.
