Commemorative cancellation to mark SNP’s 75th

AFP

The United States Postal Service will be recognizing the 75th anniversary of Shenandoah National Park with a special commemorative cancellation. On Saturday, June 25, the Luray Post Office will have staff present at the Anniversary celebration at Big Meadows from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Individuals may choose to bring their own envelopes for cancellation or purchase one of the special commemorative envelopes that have been designed for this celebration.

The Shenandoah National Park Association, a non-profit organization that supports the interpretive and educational activities of the park, has produced five commemorative envelopes to make available during the celebration. Each envelope includes a beautiful linen-like image of the park, a forever pine cone stamp, the official 75th anniversary cancellation, and is placed in a clear plastic protective sleeve. Images available are of a black bear, a fall color scene, a waterfall, a view of Skyline Drive from Stony Man Mountain, and a historic black and white photo of President Franklin D. Roosevelt dedicating the Park on July 3, 1936.

A limited number of each design was printed and will sold at the Park’s re-dedication at a cost of $6.99 each. They will also be available from the snpbooks.org and the CelebrateShenandoah.org websites.

For more information contact the Shenandoah National Park Association at 540.999.3582 or e-mail the Association at [email protected].
