Winners and Losers: Brett Favre, Matt Schaub

WINNER (For the Moment): Brett Favre

It’s still not looking good for ol’ Father Time, but the snowstorm and Metrodome roof collapse that pushed the Vikings-Giants game back a day at least gives his consecutive-games-played streak streak a glimmer of life left.

My take: I hope he doesn’t start, play a series, hand the ball off three times to Adrian Peterson and then stand on the sidelines the rest of the way. I doubt he’d even consider that, but …

LOSER: Matt Schaub

It will become official tonight. The Houston Texans have been the NFL’s next up-and-coming team forever now, but a loss in tonight’s scheduled Monday Nighter will drop them to 5-8 (after a promising 3-1 start) and all but put the nail in the coffin for a first playoff berth for the franchise.

It’s not all Schaub’s fault – he can’t play defense, but then, neither can the guys on the Texans’ defense. That said, a quarterback wins, he gets too much credit, a quarterback loses, he gets too much of the blame. Such is life at the glamour position in the game.
