The Waynesboro First Aid Crew took home five top honors at the Virginia Association of Volunteer Rescue Squads annual convention held recently in Virginia Beach.

The Junior EMT competition team – consisting of Sarah Merriken, Tara Morrison, Whitney McCormick and J.T. Harry – took first place in the Junior EMT Contest. The Senior EMT Competition Team – Steve Davis , Amy Markham, Fran Davis, Robbi Blackburn, Ashley Cook, Christopher Moyer and Matthew Carter – won first place in the Senior EMT Contest.

The Heavy Duty Rescue Truck Competition Team – Wayne Rankin, Matthew Wells, Kyle Stachowski, David Price and Christopher Moyer – won first place in the Heavy Duty Vehicle Extrication Contest.

The Crew also won first place for Best Appearing Rescue Truck and for its Junior Association Scrapbook.

The Senior EMT Team and Heavy Duty Rescue Truck Team are qualified to compete in the championship competition at the International Rescue and Emergency Care Association Convention in June 2011, in Palm Springs, Calif.

“We are very proud and honored to receive these awards,” First Aid Crew president Ashley Cook said. “The three things I believe that helped us to achieve these awards are dedication, pride and professionalism. WFAC has a tradition of dedicated EMS professionals proudly working hard to achieve the best. Our volunteers have a commitment with this organization-with emphasis on commitment – fully knowing and recognizing that our communities rely upon our diligence of service to fulfill our mission statement ‘to provide the best quality pre-hospital emergency care and rescue services to the citizens of Waynesboro and surrounding areas.'”
