Churchville attorney Francis Chester announced today that he will hold a press conference on Thursday at 2 p.m. in front of the Augusta County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office related to a new action involving the 2009 county reassessments.

A press release from Chester said that the attorney will invoke state code section 58.1-3003 that he says will require Commonwealth’s Attorney Lee Ervin to file suit against the county. According to the code section, the Commonwealth’s Attorney is required to file an appeal of the imposition of taxes if a petition signed by 1 percent of the registered voters of the county demanding the appeal the imposition of taxes by the governing body is filed.

The release reported that Chester will file the required number of signed petitions to Ervin.
