Sammy Zeglinski scored 21 points and was 5-of-10 from three-point range to lead Virginia to a surprising 68-62 win over Boston College in the opening round of the 2010 ACC Tournament on Thursday.

UVa. (15-15) entered the tournament on a nine-game losing streak and had lost its leading scorer, second-team All-ACC performer Sylven Landesberg, and senior co-captain Calvin Baker from the roster in the past week.

The Cavs led most of the way after riding a 17-4 run over the final 10 minutes of the first half to a 34-27 halftime lead.

Boston College (15-16) was able to hang around in the second half after Virginia built an early 11-point lead, but couldn’t overcome the hot shooting of Zeglinski and backcourtmate Jeff Jones, who scored 14 points and was 3-of-5 from three-point range.

Jerome Meyinsse had 12 points and Mike Scott had 11 points and 13 rebounds for UVa., which plays top-seeded Duke at noon Friday in the tournament quarterfinals.

Rakim Sanders led BC with 22 points.
