Update: Arrest made in Augusta County shooting

Fernandez AguilarUpdate: Thursday, 6:22 p.m. Richard Steven Fernandez-Aguilar has been arrested in connection with today’s early morning shooting. He was charged with malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Fernandez-Aguilar is being held without bond at Middle River Regional Jail.

It’s alleged that Fernandez-Aguilar showed up at the victim’s home and opened fire through a door, striking the victim in the leg. The motive for the shooting is not being released, nor is the relationship; the victim and offender knew each other.

Fernandez-Aguilar was located and arrested at the Staunton Probation and Parole Office (approximately 3 p.m.) with the assistance of the Staunton Police Department.

Original post: Thursday, 10:41 a.m. Augusta County sheriff’s deputies responded to the 500 block of Pine Bluff Road in reference to a shooting into a residence early Thursday morning.

One victim was identified and was treated for a gunshot wound to the leg and is in stable condition.

Investigators with the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office have been actively working this incident and a suspect has been identified but is still at large. More information will be released as it develops.
