The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning that is in effect for Augusta County, Staunton and Waynesboro through 1 p.m. Friday.

The forecast from the Weather Service has the area in line for a mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain. Snow and sleet accumulations of 1 to 2 inches is possible, with an additional ice accumulation of a quarter-inch also possible.

The weather is projected to begin Thursday afternoon as freezing rain and sleet, with a changeover to snow and sleet on Friday.

Temperatures are expected to remain in the upper 20s to the low 30s for the duration of the weather event.
